I Wish Winners Visit Lisheen Wind Farm

Transition Year student Erin Smith won the visit for her class at the 10th I Wish Showcase in February, the annual event that promotes careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths to girls. Erin visited the Ørsted stand and competed by generating power on Ørsted’s energy bike.

Comprised of Lisheen 1, 2 and 3, the wind farm generates a combined 89 MW of green energy, making it Ørsted’s largest wind farm in Ireland. During the visit, the 36 students heard from site technicians about how the wind farm operates, and from UCC Energy Engineering student and Operations Intern at Ørsted, Aoibheann Maxwell on how to pursue a career in renewable energy.

Ørsted currently operates 378 MW of onshore wind across the island of Ireland, producing enough power for over 246,000 homes. A global renewable energy company, its Irish headquarters are based in Cork City, where it employs over 100 people.
